The faculty of Science is considered one of the infrastructure colleges when establishing any university so it was one of the first five colleges which have been established according to the issuance of the presidential decree No (185) in1973.  At the beginning the college was affiliated to the Assuit University until 1976 and after that it became totally independent from the Assuit University and related to the Minia University. From the establishment of the college until now it has seen significant developments including its (scientific departments ,academic programs and its general trends) in the first year of the college the number of the teaching staff members was (7) and they were related the departments of the geology and chemistry .
The other departments were depending on the teaching members who are mandating from the other Universities in order to cover the deficit of the teaching staff members in the college and in 2005 the number of the teaching staff members reached (235).

According to the dynamics of the university work and the necessary of its continuous development, the college is following carefully the essential future trends like:

 

 

1.     The continuous development of academic programs to achieve the continuation of the qualitative upgrading and the continuation of the new programs in some fields and disciplines which are very necessary for the different organizations of the state.

2.     Developing the teaching process according to the trend of updating the teaching and learning methods.

3.     The continuation of establishing the specialized research laboratories and

moderating the research laboratories in the different departments of the college.

4.     Developing and activating the relation between the community and the university

Through the production and services centers in the fields of the applied and the

Basic science researches and the emphasis on the college role in providing the technical and the consultancy experiences in these fields.

5.     Supporting and activating programs which are organized by the faculty in the different scientific disciplines to raise the teacher level in the pre –university education stages.
